Ok so we went to the Drive-in this weekend and saw "Happily N'ever After" and "Charlotte's Web".
While "Happily N'ever After" looked promising, it was not very funny. We think this might have been made by the same company that did that Little Red-Riding Hood movie a few years back. While there were funny moments, we felt like they didn't really LET things be funny. Hello? Patrick Wharburton as Prince Charming? You'd think, super funny right? Well not really. They did give him some funny lines but he wasn't really allowed to do his super funny improvisations. And the stepmother was styled really weird, I did not like it at all, she kind of looked like a big bug with boobs. So a no go on this film, for sure a renter if even taking the time at all. Just kind of a weird movie.
"Charlotte's Web" on the other hand was very sweet. The gags were funny, the tugs at your heartstrings were not too overpowering, and the cast excellent. I really enjoyed this film, they did a great job making the animals look real and not too cartooney. Dakota Fanning was wonderful as usual, and her supporting cast was really believable, they seemed like a real family. The only thing I missed was music. Because I grew-up with the cartoon, loving the music, I missed the little tear in my eye when Charlotte sings Wilbur to sleep. Although, from what I remember, they did stick pretty close to the book. I really liked this film, I would possibly even buy it for my kids. I would be sure, of course, they read the book first.
Well that's it for the movie review for this week! I'll review more films when we go to the Drive-in!
