What Does it Mean to be Feminine?

Many of you may not know this, (I hope it is daringly obvious), I consider myself a feminist. Feminism among Mormon women is controversial on its own but I have never really been sure why. Mormon women have historically been feminists in the truest sense of the modality, in that we believe in agency, the core value of our faith; the core value of feminism is that women should be able to make choices. Whether unabashedly free of the constraints of our patriarchal society and religion, or within those values and mores; the point is we are free to be who we are and be free from judgment for our choices. The choices I have made in my life have been in consideration of: my faith, my personal sanity, socially constructed rules, lifestyle standards, and lastly feminist values.

I read a blog http://www.feministmormonhousewives.org/ that is a good read whether you are a feminist, a Mormon, a woman, or otherwise. You may or may not agree with the opinions presented, but I think its a good look at opinions of strong women of my faith.

The following is from a recent post:

"I suppose that an enlightened definition of femininity might exist, one that has nothing to do with dress or appearance. Despite ourselves, I think most of us identify femininity by superficial, external qualifiers. Dresses, for one. Pretty shoes that might be painful to wear. Soft, carefully-applied makeup and hair. A sense of grace and style, a certain delicacy. And, certainly, if you are blessed to be born with conventional beauty, you’re already in the ballpark, regardless of what you wear."

What do you think? What does it mean to be feminine?
