To My Husband on Father’s Day

My heart aches when I think of you and how you love me and our babies.

I must have had a hundred nightmares about you falling asleep at the wheel,

But I cling to my faith that if you left us we’ll always be a family.

I look at the photos of our first baby and our wedding day

And I think about how our love has changed,

Through worse and through better we’ve grown whole.

Your mother said she is so proud of the man and father you have become.

I love you most when you hold our babies and kiss them goodnight,

Watching you love what we made

Makes me feel safe and secure in the promises we made together.
