This is the time of year I try try try to love but I have a hard time.
I loved the Summer months as a kiddo; I would leave the house almost as soon as I woke up and have adventures.
I spent many hours with my best friend LeeAnn who always seemed to have a cat with kittens every summer. We would play with the kittens in her backyard in the morning, ride our bikes up and down the street and drink lots of kool-aide supplied by her mother. My other friend Hillary was a business woman; we had a candy stand and we sold Otter Pops in front of her house.
When I was not at LeeAnn's or Hillary's house I would be with my sister, we'd climb the cherry tree in the backyard and eat cherries all day, or she'd sit in the u-shaped handlebars on my bike and we'd bike around the neighborhood. Sometimes we'd ride our bikes down to the dollar movie and catch a flick. Sometimes we'd go down to the irrigation ditch and play in the water, watching water skeeters disturb the surface.
My fondest memory of the summer is lying on the grass in the front yard and watching the stars and letting ladybugs crawl up my arms.
Now days as a Mommy I still try to love the summer but it is bittersweet. As a career woman this is the time of year I wish I could be a stay-at-home Mom the most.
My boys are swimming in the Brownie's pool, eating popcorn and Popsicles, and taking afternoon naps. I how I wish I could be with them all the time.
BUT;
I just got to eat my favorite Becca-made salad with goat cheese and strawberries and avocado without having to remind Izzy-boy to eat, or avoid Sweet-Baby-J as his sticky/greasy fingers jab into me. I do love my boys more than anything and I wish I could be with them all the time. However, I know I need time to myself too and I do LOVE my job...
Most of the time....
I suppose this is the way life is meant to be for me.
I can't wait to go on vacation to Corpus Christi tomorrow. I can feel that lovely sand between my toes now.....
